J and Sarah Barnes have been longtime friends and benefactors of Campbell Hall. Their son, Nicholas, graduated in 2009, and J continued to serve on the school's board of directors, including a term as chairman, until 2018. Not long ago, J shared his reflections on his philanthropic support for Campbell Hall and decision to make a commitment to the school through their estate:
"Sarah and I have made annual gifts to Campbell Hall for more than a decade. We've eagerly supported capital campaigns, scholarships, the endowment and the Campbell Hall fund. Sometimes we made gifts of cash, and more often, we donated appreciated securities. Donating that way fits our tax-planning, budget, lifestyle and commitment to Campbell Hall.
We want to continue our commitment well into the future and have chosen to make a planned gift from our estate to Campbell Hall. Making a future contribution from our estate means that we benefit from our assets now, and Campbell Hall will receive a gift of our appreciated assets when we no longer need them.
It's simply a great legacy to leave."
J and Sarah's impact at Campbell Hall has been felt for almost two decades. They contributed generously to the campaign to build the Spielberg Family Arts and Education Center and were instrumental in launching the Legacy for Good endowment campaign in 2012. And, in the future, their legacy gift through their estate will benefit Campbell Hall students for generations yet to come.
